"Everything You Know Is Wrong" is possibly an overstatement, but so much of what we are taught as conventional truth is wrong that "Everything..." might be more accurate than we'd like to admit. The experts of a few centuries ago were wrong about the Sun orbiting the Earth. Also, they were wrong about the Earth being flat. Even when Copernicus and Galileo discovered new truths about our Solar System, they were persecuted for being ahead of their time. Even so, truth won out as those with closed minds died off leaving less obstruction for those who followed with improved tools and thoughts in synch with reality. We like to think we are more advanced in modern times, but the fact remains that closed minds often obstruct new truths until they become "self-evident".

Lloyd Pye strikes a comfortable balance between burdensome scientific nomenclature and layman's language. The former is necessary to engage the scientifically oriented, and the latter to avoid losing the interest of those who wish to follow the gist of the story without necessity for referring to the library for the rest of the story. The study of genetics is challenging, but the "fusing of genes" is a fairly easy concept to follow. Genetics of humans, hominoids, and domesticated plants and animals is explained logically and powerfully to illustrate a most likely "Intelligent Intervention" rather than simply "scientific evolution" or "religious creation" alone.
Evidence, logic, and improved tools of exploration and discovery continue to lead us toward new truths which are first denied, then violently opposed, and finally accepted as "self-evident". If mankind is truly intelligent, then new truths should be welcomed rather than shunned. When the experts are "wrong", they should willingly admit the facts and move on rather than make fools of themselves by hanging on too long to outdated and erroneous information. That should be one of the most important ideas gained from this book, but history shows us otherwise. Why does ego continue to drive individuals along the wrong paths in a lifelong quest to maintain power and recognition for erroneous information? On the other side of the coin, why not read books such as this which help us open our minds to new knowledge more attuned to reality?     less
